Jump landing question

Hey all, just had a quick question about freestyle jumps. With the mods to my ski now, change in riding stance (feet side by side in the holds is a night and day difference for control/jumping than staggered) and me getting more comfortable, my jumps are getting much higher than they have been in previous seasons. I am able to 180 now, and get several feet of air off rollers. My question is for just the straight height jumps. Once I am up off the roller and I am in my footholds, I have a tendency to pull the ski up so it's level in the air. I am worried that landing flat is going to crack the hull on these larger jumps, and I'm not a small guy to boot (6'4" 220). Are the Kawi 750's prone to cracking in specific places? Should I shove the tail back down before landing so it kinda of softens the blow?

My goal is to start trying to roll in the coming months as well, but we'll see how that goes lol. I envision ALOT of side flops (thank god for helmets saving ear drums lol).

Just a rundown of the ski if it matters:

Kawi 750 SX (dual carb conversion)
Stubby pump cone
9/17 Skat Impeller
Home made X2 Trim
Blowsion Klowner Footholds
4* bars
3" shorter PLD Alum Pole (with modified spring)

I also have a Coffman exhaust but she's running soooo well right now I really don't want to lose the smoothness by putting it on yet.

The kawi hood will not last too long for barrel roll flops. These parts are prone to crack. I would recommend re reinforcing. 750hood.png

Also just sell that coffman pipe and find a factory mod pipe. I tried both and the FP was night and day difference over the coffman, By far the best mod I did to the ski.

How would you recommend reinforcing that? Can I just lay up some glass from the back or does it need to like wrap around? I've got the materials/skillset to do the glasswork, it's fun :).

Hows the rideability with both pipes? Are you basically riding the powerband? That's what I am hoping to avoid. I don't want to lose the low end cruise ability but that punch from the powerband could really be awesome for jumping :).

ya just add some glass to the outside, going back in the hood as far as you can.

The pipe (was a few years ago so my recollection isnt perfect), I would say the coffman was a smoother powerband but didnt have much down low, more of a mid and top. The FP had A LOT more down low, much more geared for freestyle but still allowed you to cruise all around.

Sorry, when you say outside, you mean on the actual outside of the hood? I was hoping to be able to reinforce it from the back/inside.

and reinforce the pole mount area all the way to the side rails at least or it will crack .try to do the whole engine compartment too to prevent the sides from bending in during failed rolls.

Ok good idea. I will probably do that one at the end of the season so I don't have to dismantle the ski right now for it.

550/440

Maybe I'll get it all the way around NEXT time....

The area under the tank / nose will get soft and fail also, I've had two of them come apart there, and one sank.

Are you talking about the MOD pipe or the limited? I tried the MOD and limited and MUCH prefer the limited, the mod pipe made great top end power but was about stock on low and mid range. Not to mention how insanely loud and annoying it makes your ski to everyone within a 2 mile radius lol.

I bought my kawi with the common cracks around the pole mount and reinforced it, havent spread any yet. Also just repaired the lower hull near the support by the tank/stator area. Id say deff reinforce those areas

I cracked my 750 hull at the pole bracket. I also cracked by the hood seal, but that was from a few serious back flops at pismo.

Edit: For jump landing a little tail down to soften the blow never hurt. I wouldn't make landing like that a habit. If you ever ride surf you will know why.
