Js550 starting issues

Been having this issue with my Js550 that I recently built up. It runs good starts right away but sometimes if I fall off or stop somewhere and try to restart it sounds like it's not getting air or fuel and is bogging or something. Sometimes if I take the hood off it starts right away other times I just have to leave it for a bit and it will restart.

Any ideas?

What year is your 550? If its one of the earlier ones when it started to come with the 44mm carb that is a known issue. There is a defect in the low speed circuit that dumps fuel in the intake when turned off. Next time it happens hold the throttle open when you try to restart it, if it fires up good, that is probably the issue.

I've got the bn38.

With the fuel switch bypassed and a .30 mig tip in the return line.

I took the hood off for a few minutes the other day and it wouldn't restart still so I don't think there is exhaust leak or anything I changed the waterbox thinking it was that. The carbs are freshly rebuilt and it runs great when its running. Sucks to fall off and have to swim it back if it doesn't restart.
