300/440/550 JS 440 water leak

I just bought a 84 js440 and got it all cleaned up and put back togther but I have a couple of problems. 1st and most important, the ski takes on water only when I ride it. It can just sit in the water and not leaks, but when I ride it for just 2 minutes it will fill up with about 1-2 inches of water in the engine compartment. Also the ski will run really stong untill I make a turn in it and then the engine boggs down and will not reave back up when I straighten it back out. What to do?:dunno:

check the bilge at the reduction cone. if there is no pipe protruding into the water path then the pump pressure will be applied into the bilge line, thus filling the ski. I had a cone do this, I glued a piece of (i think copper) water line in the hole & the problem was fixed. this was on an ocean pro reduction cone.

could also be the prop shaft housing to bulkhead seal, (silicone).

If your ski bogs on left turns then your pop-of pressure is way to low. I had that problem once also. My 550 with factory half pipe, 185 compression head, mild porting & some other stuff. my sbn 44 has a 130 high, 110 low & 2.0 ns with about 25 pop-off & throttle is crisp.

I still have to play with the jets to get it perfect but the gold spring was to high & dull silver seems to be most crisp. I had a 2.3 ns with gold spring (about 22-23 psi pop) & it was loading up in no wake zones.

I think my high jet is still to high but I haven't had a chance to ride it & tune jets since raising the pop off.

I will try the bilge line to see if that works and as far as the bogging goes. It bogs down no matter what direction I turn (right of left). The engine is running 170 in one and 180 in the other. I will try the pop-of pressure, but do you have any more ideas?
