Ok.....here is the lowdown. 701, stock carbs with 2 screens and chokes removed, sport template ported, riva spacer, 170psi head, and factory mod pipe. i know alot of those dont have much to do with jetting but i thought i would list them incase. on a similiar setup freestylegeek was running 75 lows, 135 highs, and 95 gram spring. so that is what i started with.
1. first i adjusted the lows speed screws for a good idle....it will idle indefinately and has fast throttle response
2. then i moved to testing the low speed jet. when running the ski at constant 1/4 throttle i noticed that the ski would surge a bit and it would start chugging kinda like a train or 4 stroke....i used the primer on the dash to add just a bit of fuel to see if that would clear that up just incase i was running lean. adding a bit of fuel made the chugging worse.
3. then i checked the main jet by running at a consistant 1/2 throttle which is hard to do in my pond.....seems that that was pretty close and didnt want to lean out or load up
4. i havent figured out out how to check the hs screw yet since that requires wide open throttle and the ski is producing a butload of power....too much for me to floor it for extended periods and keep it hooked up in a pond or not...it is a 5 acre pond so dont feel too sorry for me.
ok...so since my low speed idle mixture screw seemed to be adjusted accurately i changed out my low speed jet with a 72.5(one step down). the surging disapeared but it still chugs after i hold 1/4 throttle for more than a few seconds. adding fuel with the primer just makes the chugging worse so that would make me think that it is still too rich..but the next step down with a jet would be the stock size and i seriously doubt that would be right since i now have the b mod pipe on and a wider than stock exhaust port. so i ran it at 1/4 throttle for a couple of minutes to see if it would finally load up or lean out. it didnt seem to do either and has instantaneous response when i get on it..so that makes me think it must be close since it will throw the ski up and out of water as soon as i get on it after running the 1/4 throttle test. is this chugging(sounds kinda like a 4 stroke) the result of my new high performance pipe or not good enough gas....was running 90 octane with my 170 psi head.:frown:
