How many of you guys have subscriptions to jetski magazines?

Do any of you buy them from the store? What do you like/dislike about them?

Personally....I think most jetski magazines are pretty lame. I understand....the majority of the readers/riders in this industry are on huge couches, and as a result, that's what most of the mags are aimed at. But why must they be so bland? And so many of them are sooo lacking in pictures. I think it was the oceanside freeride competition in Ride.....The biggest/only freeride comp of the year in the US, and they covered it with ONE picture.

All three magazines have definetly increased stand-up/free-ride/freestyle covnerage in the last few years and I would say this site has a lot to do with it. I mean that other site. I remember when joe got one of his first full pagers and know you can go through a mag without one. He had like 4 straight covers...I feel exactly the opposite of what you wrote IMO. I think O-side freeride comp was awesome but small turnout and bad waves....thats why lack of coverage on that one.

I havent looked at a jetski mag for ages
when we were in a minority ( stand ups) they dropped us
Now i am not interested in them
when we wrote in talking to them about the lack of stand up articles they used to make fun of us in the editorial
( i know they did it to me)

they can go jump(yes pun intended)

they have finially realised that the stand ups are the guys that would buy supscribtions and that are the long term stayers inthe sport

Oh well to little to late for me

I get Ride, PWI and Watercraft World... mainly because winter is soooo long I need something to keep me going.

I like Ride, PWI and WW are ok, but too many couch related articles in them. Wax is right though, they are slowly starting to get back to the roots of the sport. I think the extreme nature of standups is starting to take hold.

I orignally subscribed to them when I was a couch rider several years ago. When I made the jump to a standup I was very disappointed with those mags...

It seams that most of the couchers I have ever known have done one of two things: 1. realized they loved the sport and switched to standups or 2. got out of riding after a short stint on a couch.

So the mags were catering to where the manufacturers sales were going, but not to the true enthuseists.

Or maybe I'm completely wrong...

Jerry, just be glad we live in the age of the internet, the pics and info we have here and at pwctoday are far better than any lamer mag could ever offer to such a small sport. Really even car mags suck compared to the forums that support that perticular car,and there are TONS of car mags out there.where as there are only a couple ski mags. Besides who of us really cares how many more HP the next yr see-poo is gonna have.

Ditto. #1 here... If sites like this and PWCToday can continue to convert others, I think the SU side of the sport will continue to grow.

the thing is it would be hard to have a magazine now as these sites have the stuff the very day it happens
where the magezines are always about a month- 2 weeks old

All Three. Yes they are somewhat commerical, but they have to pay thier bills too. All the rags are like that not just the one pertaining to PWCs.

i have to say that magazine coverage would make a difference in new riders. i am 17 years old and just bought my first stand-up last spring... now all of my friends want one, because up here in Maine, we NEVER see a stand up jet ski, i would say im one out of less than 20 stand-up riders in the STATE. my friends didnt even think they existed except in the video game waverunner, and my friends father told me that its too bad that they dont make stand-ups anymore, so id have to deal with my old 650 SX for ever. i ended up having to bring him to the Kawi website and showing him the SX-R.......I think a magazine is a much more effective advertising technique for stand-ups compared to the website, the website is for established riders, not someone curious about the sport.

werd up.... Ride is very cool... Chris Manthos is all for promoting freerides...

Ride Probably didn't have anyone at the O-side Freeride... You have got to remember how bad the planning for that event was :aargh4: :aargh4: .... Christ, Ross was the only one promoting it, till the IFWA finally decided to get HT involved... They're probably the only thing that saved that comp from being a complete joke... Do you think the IFWA called any magazines??? Then didn't even advertise...

I'll get off my soapbox now

I don't need articles. There is more information right here on this site than one could ever need. If you sent me a jet ski mag that looked like a portfolio, I may subscribe. Full page pics of shots like the shots that Fullgaz has. I could look through it over and over... but if my wife asks, I get it for the artiles :cool2:

I like looking at magazines. its cool to flip through and say hey I know that guy.

That's a very cool thing to look in the mag and say I know them, or I was there. It reminds you what a tight knit group we are.
