jet dynamics carbon fiber ride plate

decided to do some practicing with some carbon fiber to gain experience for larger more complex projects. i know this isn't the most professional workshop or tools but its a start. i am using 12k 2x2 twill. it measures .030 inches thick.
surprisingly it was considerably easier to work with than most fiberglass cloths. any constructive criticism would be appreciated.

1st i covered the plate in a tape that the resin would not stick to

2nd i brushed on a layer of resin and started laying saturated pieces of carbon

3rd i popped off the carbon and sprayed a light layer of paint to make my outline for trimming.

when i finish my layers and reinforcing i will take it into my work and mill the outside edges and drill the holes.

Thats really cool. Beleive it or not I was just going to do the same thing tomorrow with my spare FX-1 ride plate. ( I broke the other one). I was just going to use epoxy and glass though.

i got mine on ebay. there is a guy on there that builds stuff for cars and he sells the scraps. its the same resin as fiberglass. you just use less layers because the material is stronger. i tried glass once, its not as nice and ends up weighing about the same as the aluminum. just buy some carbon on ebay. find the best deal you can for your first one. don't buy it from US composites till you know what your doing. this stuff is around $55 a yard thats to much money to throw away if you mess up.
