Alright I picked up my (new to me) 1990 Squarenose during the Christmas break. We've had a few 55-60 degree days here so I've had a chance to ride it, and it RIPS!!!! I was trying to build a ski a couple years ago, but had to sell my work in progress due to purchasing the little lake house we are in now, and having a BABY!!! (and some slight legal issues...:shhh It seems like this ski was setup for racing awhile back, I still have to totally go through it to see what is already been done to it. So anyway heres what I have and know for now...

1990 SN
701 engine w/ dual 38's
Factory B pipe into limted chamber
Aluminum handpole
Bilge pump w/ the waterproof switch attached to the start and stop switch
Solas impeller (not sure what pitch)
Extended ride plate (not sure what brand)
Intake grate (not sure what brand)
And a few other odds and ends..............

Now for the build I'm just trying to keep it clean and simple.

Paint ski, and fill in and paint chips on bottom
Glass over gas cap cover
Internal fuel fill mod
Hood mod
Try to Polish the Aluminum Hand Pole, and Exhaust Chamber
Footholds
Hydro-Turf tray, nose, chinpad, and rails
U.M.I. 0 degree Handle Bars
Hood Straps
Limiting Rope
Prok clear Air Filters for Dual 38mm Carbs
Different Colored Fuel Lines
Go through and clean up fuel, electric, and water lines
I'm not sure If I want to totally re-foam or not.....

i run the same ride plate and intake grate combo and i really like it...

im pretty sure that grate led to the breaking of my stock pump shoe though.
its very agressive and hangs down very low compared to others.

my plate is even a square plate on my round too.

Thanks! I really like it too. It sticks pretty well carvin around, and I can get the ass to break lose when I want. I think I'm going to keep that as is.
Hopefully I can get it up to the shop, and start tearing it down this weekend. I posted this build up so it would force me to load it up and get started...lol

Alright FINALLY ordered some stuff for the ski over the week...

3lb foam from U.S. Composites
12oz Biax Fiberglass
Epoxy
R.E.V. footholds w/ enclosures
Black Diamond hydro-turf
0 degree kommand bars
O.D.I. grips
Hood Straps
New colored water and fuel lines

I think I'm gonna go w/ Orange top and black bottom pearled over for paint. I'm gonna try and start tearing down this Sunday, or for sure next weekend.

Well took a vaction day today to tear down.. So I got paid while tearing down my ski!!! ( I thought it was a fair deal) :Banane09:

So anyway when I flipped it over I seen there's alot of scratch's and kinda deep gashes.. Should I just sand it down and fill w/ evercoat fiberglass filler, or spread some of the epoxy resin in and sand down??

Also noticed that someone built up the nose...

I never bothered fixing the scratches on my old hull. I only worried about the bond line and up for paint.

OH DEAR GOD is there a quicker way to defoam this tray...:banghead: Right now I'm using like a wire brush on the end of a drill and a shop vac as I go....Is this the fastest way?????? Sorry no pics left the camera at the house......

i found a couple prybars to be the fastest way to get the big chunks out...

for the last bits i used the wire brush on the drill. that will clean it up nicely in the hard to reach spots.

Now I have the hood mod started, and the defoaming half done. The footholds should be here tommorow, so maybe I can get it defoamed then refoamed w/ the footholds in and ready to start sanding and glassing....

So everything that could leak was leaking in the tray of this thing:17exhaust hole in the back leaking the worst)

And I STILL have just a little more defoaming to do............

But on the bright side my footholds came in!!!!:bananajump:

I really feel like I'm getting nowhere on this build working on it only 1-2 days a week on it...........Kind of in that stage where I'm trying not to rush myself to get it done.....

Hey- If Kurt had let me know he had a 701 SN for sale
I probably would have bought this ski
Dont true the bottom- makes the ski really squirrely.
I did it last winter and then let it rock on ramps during the summer
to roughen it back up!

No there WD Rev's like what tor*p*do put in his SN, only I got the enclosures to go with them.

And hey Tor*p*do I'm not really sure but I think Kurt does have another SN w/ a 701 for sale? Send him a P.M. about it. I was almost going to buy another one from him but started this build, and plan on getting a pontoon. So I won't be able to get another this summer.

GreenAnt once its done, if I see you at any rides you can ride it again and tell me what you think!

So do you think I should just paint over the bottom and leave the scraps???

Is there a place on the midshaft where I can grease it or something? It seems like its not turning as freely as it should.. It turns fine, I just can't give it a spin, and it spin on its own...if that makes sense.....

no way to lube midshaft bearing on a 1990 SN
other than remove and replace and pack fresh bearing
with fresh grease
it is a good time to do it while you arent riding
frozen midshaft in July sux!
that being said, I have never seen one that "spun"
the seal and grease around the shaft put enough drag to prevent this
if it turns smooth, no wobble or grind
you can probably just run it ('til it goes)
