My second response was too fastgtfairlane, he was saying it wasnt a yamaha starter. its yamaha, just for a outboard, took me all of 10 seconds on google to figure out it was for a 8 or 9.9 yamaha outboard.

Next time, Id recommend using a parts diagram, to insure you order the correct parts.

I have had great luck with caltric starters and they cost a fraction of OEM.

Where'd you send it to be rebuilt? I've looked a bit locally for a starter/alternator/etc repair shop, but nothing has jumped out to me as being an obvious place to rely on.
