is this the bendix?

or is the bendix inside the starter? wondering if i should order new starter or just this thing? it spins the starter then second attempt it turns the engine over, bendix seems in good condition whats a good way to test it? i have the engine out now

yeah thats the bendix

if its the bendix thats bad, you will most likely hear a spinning sound when startign the ski, which means the bendix isnt opening and connecting the gears.

If you have an old front cover you can saw it in half to hold the bendix in place while you start the engine. Also it's real useful when checking your ignition timing.
