I dont run a check valve.
About 6 years ago on my SN, it quit working and collapsed the tank to half its size and leaned out my carbs and I had a lean seizure from it.

I just do like Idok mentioned, I wrap some hose in a bunch of loops and zip tie it off. Never have to worry about those stupid vent valves again!

Just an FYI, the ones you can buy at an auto parts store are NOT the same as the oem ones. I sourced one at napa and after building a ridiculous amount of pressure in my tank one day I put it on my pop-off gauge. That sucker didn't leak off any pressure all the way up to 45 psi at which point it completely failed. The oem one I finally replaced it with started to bleed pressure at 5 psi. Combine this with a leaky needle and seat or fuel system and I could imagine some really bad things happening.
