Freestyle Intake Grate Question

Quick question.... I'm finishing up my SN and was wondering if I should run my R&D intake grate or just run a stocker. The thing is I want maximum slip and slide. If I could get jammer like proportions that would be great. But don't think so.

Ride the stocker for a couple rides and then swap it to the R&D. Once you've gotten used to the stock one, you'll either notice an improvement or you won't like the change. I have a hard time telling the difference back to back but once I've grown accustomed to one, I can usually tell the difference once they're changed. Since you've got both, it's no sweat off your back to really change.

Agreed, try them both. It's only held in with 4 bolts and not hard to swap

One of the local riders here likes it really slippery. He actually traded parts with me to get the stocker I had in the parts box.
Try 'em both.

In choppy water an aggressive grate keeps the pump hooked up a lot better. But it's a lot less slippery.

The older R&Ds didnt hang much below the hull anyway, nothing like a worx or watercross. A superjet is not going to slide very well no matter. Thats the world of old Kawasakis, especially the 650sx.

I have to run the R&D. I took the ski out today and yea. It wont stay hooked up very well with the chop. It does a better job of sliding with the modified stock nozzle and a quick steer plate. Nothing like the jammer though but I can kick it out pretty good.

I currently run a big R&D scoop grate and have run a 2 bar grate on this hull. I can make the hull slip and slide sideways with both using the exacts same technique. I noticed that the pump snatches right before you stop sliding with the scoop grate while I have to feather the throttle after I've stopped sliding to get moving again with the 2 bar grate. When riding at speeds above 25-30mph, I can feel the scoop grate sucking the hull to the water and it glides across the chop as if it were glass. The hull just bounces up and down the chop with the 2 bar though.

I think it's hard to tell the difference between any of the intake grates when you're just messing around. The differences begin to appear in certain scenarios though and that's what makes one better than the other. A 30 minute test may not reveal the benefit or the flaw with either. When I was still riding my 750, I rode a full day with a Worx half scoop, 2 bar grate, and a deep R&D scoop grate and couldn't tell any difference between the three. Then one day I tried a jet dynamics intake grate and immediately noticed it was superior to the others. I haven't ever had that far superior feel on SJ grates yet. Some just slightly shine over others in my experience.

Awesome, I had to buckle down and get it done up so I could ride during my days off at new years. This new engine is a big improvement from the 650, lol.
