FX-1 Installing ride plate / intake plate

Do I need to apply silicone around the edge before I install these?

i dont but i do put red loctite on my bolts

I just dont understand the "Air Leak" it will cause if you don't. Where is the air coming from, is it when you hop out of the water and re stuff the intake?

just put some in between the gap between grate and plate.

Some silicone their grates/plates to their hull in case their bolts fall out so they wont loose their junk. I dont, its too messy. The only silicone I use is in between my pump shoe and my hull, unless we're talking about a yamaha that has a seal already.

I've never used any on the FX.....it's not necessary.

if your looking for maximum hook up i would do it, i never have because i dont want/need it.
