ok, Got my carbon tech reeds in, after I get everything buttoned back up, I should run a compression check right? How will I know if I dont have any leaks?

first off...please tell us you used loctite on screws holding reeds petals ? air leaks give u hesitation when u hit the throttle and do a plug check with used plugs to make sure they do not turn white... also look at the spark plug rim and electrode that it does not get burned off clean.....

I didn't use loctite... The directions said not too, and the stock ones didn't have any loc tite on them?

Should I re do it???

yes, yes and yes!!!! it should have had loctite in there and you really need to put all the screws in with loctite or you are asking for a new top end and crank. i suggest you re do them but maybe thats just me :ugh:

well crap! ARGH! at least its still torn apart... but the directions defiantly said that its not nessicary... and the stock ones didn't have any loctite, on the read screws or cage screws... I assume just use blue loctite?

i would use red. and all mine had green loctite on them from the yamaha factory. never seen any that didnt really. i used it on everything!! all the pedal screws and the block mount screws as well. if they vibrate loose they will destroy your engine. just think of it as insurance.

ok, I guess I will redo it... I think red might be a bit over kill though.. if you want to take it apart again.

ive never had a problem breaking red loctite. and its never over kill its something that can take you out or cost a whole new rebuild. now epoxy resin
would be overkill haha

Ok I re did it and used loc tite! I called and talked to Art at jet works and he told me a really great way of loc titeing the reed bolts, so you dont get loctite all over the reed surfaces. He also said that blue would be enough, since those screws are so frail and can strip easy when you need to remove them. Hope it holds fine!

First bolt the new reeds on, then He said take the reed cages off the intake manifold. Then on the back side of the reed cages, where the bolt holes are, put a dab of loc tite. (you have to do each screw one by one) once you put the dab on the hole, back the screw out and the loc tite will get sucked down into the hole. Then screw it back in and wipe the excess off. This keeps the loc tite from oozing out and onto the reeds!

non technically...a pump, gauge and something to block off the exhaust manifold and something to cover the intake mani. Probably doesnt help ya much but thats what I know.
