inform my newbie head.

Ok a couple quick questions. I have doing alot of reading on diff engines and manufacturers.

What are the diff. between a wet and dry pipe, pros, cons other than cash.

When we talk 62t.....what are we speaking about? lol

And epoxied cases?

I find it funny that I am ignorant to these terms when my sj's motor is sitting in a million peices in my garage and will only take a few hours to put back together.

cheers

don't take this the wrong way - but I think it's funny (odd) that you're looking to spend 35K on a ski and don't even know the answers to your own questions.

i am in no way shape or form a mechanic...but since i'm the first one posting here i'll try to help you out to the best of my knowledge. trust me, everyone will add their .02....here is mine:

in most cases, 62t is the case that the standard 701 superjet ran from (I believe) 1996 on. On stock superjet motors, there are 62t cases (where your crank lies) and 61x cylinders.

epoxied cases are when the two sections of the cases are epoxied closed. i'm assuming this makes them stronger for bigger bore engines or engines with stroker cranks (cranks that move the piston further).

as far as the pipes go, i only have experience with Factory (the company) B-pipes.

I figured someone would flame me for those questions. Never really mix maxed engine parts on my skis or bikes, or never took the time to learn from anyone. And I am sure someone would gladly take my 35k regardless of my knowledge on engine terms. I can however rebuild my dirtbikes top end in record time.

nobody flamed you. ou should just know more than you do if youre looking for a 35k ski? have you ridden a stocker yet? (seriously)

epoxied cases are not glued together, it's when the cases--typically the upper--are so heavily ported that the grinding would cut through the casting so the voids are filled with epoxy first so there are no holes when ported.

I did not realize I was required to hold a certain amount of knowledge regarding engines in order to spend my money as I please.

I have ridden a total of 4 different skis in my life.

My bone stock sxr....before I added about 5k of parts to it
my 01 sj, which was slightly modded when i bought it which i now have about 8-10k into
a stock 09 sj
and a sj with a 1200cc waterdawg in it.

Other than that I am new. I have only been around ski for the last 6-8 months.

there are a few of us on here who would rather have the balance of wrenching vs riding reversed

if you get something with a team scream motor in it.. you WILL ride and NOT wrench!

Most of us believe that our skis require an intimate knowledge of them to keep them running but I'm finding that built right the first time with good parts, they run just fine for a long time. Like I said earlier, I wish I had done it years earlier.

$35K will actually go a long way. Once you price out what you want and buy all the components I'll bet you can do everything you want with no restrictions for around $25K.

I'm sure there are a lot of people with the same or similar questions however won't ask for fear of being criticized. I didn't know what epoxied cases were either. I am familiar with diesel and gas 4 cycle engines but lack good knowledge on my sj. I wish there were more experienced riders in my area so that I could learn. Most people on here are more than willing to help. There is also the search feature which is underutilized. I do agree with Penguin on his comment though. You should gain more knowledge about your ski before planning on spending any money because you will probably be wasting a good majority of it.

to be honest i wish i had gone for a ready build ski, the rickter that t-cutris has for sale with the 865 motor is exactly what i want.. and by the time im done with my current build will have basically spent at least that and had to do all the work myself

ask as many questions as you can... best advice ever

their are 2 701 engines. a 61x and a 62t. 61x was available from94-95, and 62t was 96+. 62t came with dual carbs and ibigger reed valves than the 61x. 61x came as a single carb motor. but the two motors are commonly mix matched. (62t cases and 61x cylinder) due to the lower exhaust ports and diffrent timing in the 61x cylinder and the bigger flow of the 62t cases for freestyle out of the hole brappppppppp

LOL really?! To me it makes perfect sence.

Its the guys that know what they are talkin about who spend 5-10k on their skis.

I mean really, How many Lambo owners do you think actually change their own oil? Or much less even know how?
