Big air, surf riding=helmet
inverted stuff= helmet
simple riding around, the ocassional small boat wake= no helmet
flatwater riding= no helmet unless you are doing br's.
Like someone else said, you mess up your head, you are in a world of hurt. Getting knocked unconscious and floating in the water is never a good thing. Limbs can be mended, but head injuries can be life-ending.

soon enough i want to try doing some tricks to show off for the ladies

I can't tell you how much the ladies love my sweet moves. I can't even get off my ski with being mobbed by women wearing bikinis. I love this sport!

BTW, I've got 2 broken noses while wearing a full face helmet. look into the cascade whitewater helmet for face protection.

my helmet

i got the idea off xh20 its from walmart and was 34 or so its a x games kids helmet. i rode with it sunday and it worked fine its nice to cause it silences your noise and also taking the darn visor off it looks cool but wrenches your neck when you hit the water legs first.\
the good best helmet would be a downhill bike helmet or maybe a pro tec skate helmet but that doesnt cover your teeth and chin
anything to protect your head is good

Problem is most people smash their faces when trying backys and rolls. Bloody o broken noses, cheek bones, and the absolute worst knocking out your chicklets is gross.

I hate the thought of taking a set of bars to the teeth. Makes me cringe.
