Today i took off the intake grate & ride plate off of my ski. How do i take the assembly off the back to get to the impeller....? i ordered a solas so i want to break all of it down now and get ready

Its a js 550 and yes, there is

you may be able to get by with just taking the 4 bolts out of the pump and leave the pump shoe on the ski so you can pull the impeller and not have to reseal the pump shoe... you will need a special prop tool to remove the impeller... it also has left handed threads

that is a good idea but to do a prop change correctly you ar going to have to pull the shoe.
the 550 pump is a mixed flow pump or the impeller blades and pump sleeve are angled.
so on the 550 you have to shim the impeller to move it forward or back in the tapered sleeve to get the impeller to sleeve clearance correct.
if the impeller is to far forward it will eat into the sleeve. to far back and the ski will cavitate.
the shims are under the impeller. you'll have to put the new impeller on the prop shaft, slide the shoe over it, then use a thickness gauge to check the sleeve clearance.

I stuck a screw driver in the hole and twisted the piss out of the impeller and BROKE TWO SCREWDRIVERS before I ended up having to torch the impeller big time to get it off.
Then burned my fingers picking up the impeller because I'm a dumass.

I guess the first question i need to ask, is how to get off the housing......? Just unbolt and pry open or is there an easy way or something I am missing?

there are 4 large cheese head bolts holding the pump to the hull. remove them unhook the steering cable and the two water lines from the pump.
then it should slide off tword the back of the ski but the seeler may want to hold it in. so you may need to cut it or give the pump a few wacks with a hammer and block of wood to brake the seel.
the prop will come out with the pump if it has the 550 pump.

please dont ever hit your pump with a hammer! after cutting the silicone, simply take a pry bar on each side and pry on the pump and rest on the flat area by the cooling lines and steering cable.. it will come right on out..
