Custom/Hybrid impeller install trouble

Installed a new impeller today, was spinning fine out of the ski, after I installed it into the ski the impeller is hitting the walls of the pump. What do I do? Options?

Sounds like you need to shim your pump to me.

X2. Pump is misaligned to the mid shaft. Did you torque the front two pump bolts and shim the back two bolts to the hull?

Or your liner has swollen. Mine did this. You can grind it some to get some clearance. But it will keep getting worse.

X2. Bolt down the front two. Then see where the rear two are at. Shim them, then bolt down.

I will try a few of your suggestions, it didn't have any shims before... so no I didn't shim.

Th old impeller probably had worn edges on the blades, now that its back to factory spec and a tighter clearance you need to shim the pump.

to be more specific, on the bench standing up ...no grinding , lay the pump on its side and under the weight of the driveshaft ...grind, is that normal or is my bearing worn out?

could be barings, are there any spacers that had been utilized with old impeller....

Honestly, I would not know. This is depressing.... wrenching, snowing at the lake, high elevation,no help in town...blah , blah, blah. Maybe I'll go play Xbox and kill some alliens.

I had this exact same problem...kind of due to my own newbness. I don't know if the Skats are similar, but I put in a Solas in my Trinity and the impeller was rubbing. I then realized that it was because my driveshaft was too long and when I jammed everything in it made it bind and rub. Ordered shortened driveshaft from Jetmaniac and it's perfect now.

I put the old impeller in just to see, and it doesn't catch the sides as much but the impeller sides are littler scored. the new one, beeing new only spins freely standing up on the bench as soon as you put it sideways it catches. the barings have no play that you could feel but if you take off the impeller and wiggle you can see a hair of play in the inner bearing and I mean a hair. so now what ? How much play should bearing have? Should I score the sides of the new impeller a bit?

My bearings had no play and was nice and tight after a fresh rebuild.

New bearings it is, any suggestions on rebuild kits...Impros has them for 35 and jetmaniac for 40. anyone else? Anyone used sealed bearings? Anyone has a thread for install or take copy of your manual, please.( No, I don't have a manual for Yami) Don't have a press either, should I send it in to someone? Suggest some options please, I want this done right the first time and last time. How about the shimming of the pump, How do you know if its alligned with the midshaft in the hull...

I only use Yamaha seals and bearings. I don't have a press but rebuilding is not too bad with a little help from a heater and freezer.

Bearings in mail. I got the shaft and the outer bearing out through the cone side. Now how do I get the inner bearing and the seals out?
