650/X-2 Impeller and Drive Shaft Play

I've got an SX650 and noticed that I have some play between my impeller and drive shaft, enough to make me uncomfortable. I'm trying to find out what the service limit is for this play. Both the drive shaft and impeller seem to have some wear.
After removing the pump housing, I used the impeller tool and it had some play in the impeller. I then used the impeller tool in another impeller and got no play. I used this impeller on the drive shaft and it had some play.
I figure some play is ok, but how much is what I'd like to know. Please help me if you can.

They will last a long time, even after they get loose. Kawasaki 650 splines are the most difficult to make last. Short splines make it easy to mount the pump off center causing excessive wear. Plus Skat Traks use of an O-ring for a seal made a bad situation even worse. The key is starting with a good shaft/impeller, aligning the pump, and maintaining lubrication with a good seal. I always glue a tight fitting seal in the impeller to keep the grease in and water/dirt out.
