could i grind off whatever layers i have done and redue the whole process and not have screwed with the overall strength of the hull?

also, say i do get it down correctly. but later on i want to 'update' it and redue it. how do you remove what you've done?

Haha, I just tried grinding down some to make room for some kevlar bling and gave up. It ain't worth it. And don't worry - you won't mess up. Just get all the air bubbles and excess resin out between layers. You'll be fine.

To top it off, I snapped a bolt in my motor mount when I was getting it out of the way of the grinder :grumble:

I did this last week too. Tried easyout, wouldnt budge the bolt. Ended up drilling out, and rethreading it bigger. :frown:

And Just do it right the first time, its really not that hard. just take your time

can't believe no one has said the magic words yet.

PREP - PREP - PREP - PREP

Make sure everything is all roughed up and clean. Even in the places you don't think you'll be laying glass....or you'll end up like my blaster where it delaminated in places I never prepped because I hadn't planned on laying glass.

you mean like this??? i left my ribs in the first time i did it and didnt fill in the bond line. now doing it the right way to lay smooth so hopefully my pipe wont rub.

grinding it with a carbide bit on a die grinder takes it off pretty good. but that mat is hell on your skin. arms, hands, face have been itching for the past two days from it. i never had a problem with itching from glass before this. that mat is some tuff stuff.

so i recommend listening to steve, cause it definitely sucks big time...:banghead:

for the love of god if you are laying down a woven mat like carbon or something like that... please please please make sure you dont have anything it will catch on because the second you get that weave out of wack, you will be spending a good portion of your life trying to fix it when it will only look worse (unless you're good at it like me:sneaky: )
If you use a good epoxy resin then you should be fine, prep is an important part but just so long as you make sure its sanded and clean it will be fine, dont let the prep worry you so much... be more concerned with the bottom half because the SMC has a release agent pressed through it from the factory that will cause that glass to not stick if its not sanded enough... a good epoxy resin will bond really well to just about anything though... dont scratch your head after dealing with it, or you'll go bald (when you cut all the glued hair off)
dont let it overwhelm you because its extremely easy
