Hello all,
After spending some time on a '90 SN SJ as a kid, I finally bought my own some 18 yrs later!
Anyways, when I first looked at the ski the seller started her right up, no problems. Two weeks later I gathered together enough funds to buy her. I brought the '94 701 swap back home and put it in the water and it wouldn't start. My buddy and I opened it up and he hastily connected the battery leads (previous owner had taken them off). The bilge pumps would work but it wouldn't turn over in the slightest.
After pulling it out of the water, I look closely at the battery leads and it looks like he connected the leads backwards! In his defense, both cables are black/blue braided hose so it's hard to tell.
Reading the wiring diagram, it looks as though the positive lead goes straight to the E-Box (bottom of the photo) and the negative lead goes to a ground on the starter motor (top of photo). Am I correct in this assumption?
I have done some troubleshooting and this is what I've found so far:
-Took the battery to O-Reily's for test. Test came back as "bad battery". I decided to trickle charge it just to be sure.
-Reconnected the correct way after trickle charging and tried to jump start the ski. Again, bilge pumps work, but it won't crank over at all. No sound, nothing.
-The fuse in the E-Box looks to be intact. Since the bilge pumps work, I assume that it's OK.
I'm headed to Lowe's right now to get a multimeter. My first thought is that I may have messed up the voltage regulator.
I'm desperate to get this thing in the water, so any help would be greatly appreciated!!!!
