I this Normal? Shaft Question...

Pulled my pump today and noticed this on the shaft..... Is this normal or has my drive shaft been rewelded?? Btw its a 91 SJ, and the weld is located about 1 inche back from where the taper begins towards the splines. Thanks in advanced, John

my 01' sj shaft looks just like that. I can say with fair amount of confidence that mine came from the factory that way (im the second owner and I know the guy that bought it new and rode with him since it was new). I had a shop check mine to see how straight it was, if i remember right, it was within 0.002". Im still running it with a big bore and never had a problem.

OEM shafts are welded together in 3 pieces. thats one of the places. the other is right at the threads where the prop screws on. if you look at 100 shafts, you'll see some of them with cracks at the threads and thats where they do break. makes it a bitch to get the prop off.

Well I am a Machinist. Haven't checked the runout.. Seems like a piss poor way to machine a driveshaft??? Does anyone make an aftermarket heavy duty shaft for Sn superjets???

JetManiac can set you up with a beefed up drive shaft. I bought one for another ski and they are nice!
