I was forced to cut my ride short last weekend when I snapped my UMI steering stud. I borrowed an idea from ScottS and got it repaired today. I chucked it up in the lathe and bored a 3/8" hole so it will accept a stainless bolt.

So simple, check it out...

How do you break that? I've been running the same one since 2005 and now you're making me nervous.

I broke one too, drilled, tapped and put in a stainless steel longer stud. now I use two jam nuts on it...does not come loose now.

Great idea. You can also put a longer bolt in there and add an acorn nut to the top for a chin pad support if you don't already have one.

Great Idea, never even thought about that.

my vote is replace it with RRP and complete your ballin' package

besides..its not black :beerchug:

Hmmm, I do like black but my solution was free....

The funny thing is, I have never heard of anyone else breaking one either til last season when ScottS broke 2 in under a month (after years of abuse).

It was a small surf day and I was really working the ski to try to make it interesting. Maybe gotta lay off my shoulder workouts...

You can break them easier from too much play on tightness and too much shoulder workouts.

I use a split locknut and my system never has any play. I was riding along and all of a sudden I noticed it had some play. I was thinking, wierd, I will have to tighten it when I...SNAP!...get back to shore. :banghead:

I did the same to my wdk plate and when the stud pulled it all went at once. I was on the hood facing the back with quite a bit of weight on the bars. It was pretty funny to say the least.. at least for those watching lol. Scared the crap out of me! I went with a 3/4 inch stainless bolt and double nuts because of the huge hole left where the stud pulled out. The hole is actually a tad bigger so it aint perfect but it does the job. Cost me 15 bucks for the bolt (had to be ordered too) and had to buy a bag of 20 nuts for another 22 dollars, ugh...
