I would also use dielectric grease too. Gotta make sure those connections are water proof!! Especially if its salt water your riding in. Use waterproof heatshrink connectors AND heat shrink tubing around all of them when your done.
 
naww no salt water but will deff be heat shrink tube on it,but another ? would it be easyer to just disconect the wires in the switch or are they not screwed in like im thinking they are?

Speak up ,don't kiss azz
use some superlgue on the wire itself before you heat the shrink tubing or it won't be watertight .Put a little superglue before and after the soldered connection and than heat it up .
I would send it back and get the right one ,yours obviously is the wrong one .
