Well, just had the fx1 painted and have the tray all turfed. Ran into problems turfing the rails and front bumper area. What kind of adhesive do you guys use to turf the rails? the contact cement that I am using takes forever to cure and i am finding it hard to keep the turf clamped in the right location. Also, how did you guys cut the turf to wrap the front bumper. I can't figure out a way to do it and make it look good. Any help is appreciated. Thanks!

What kind of contact cement are you using? You should put a layer of it on the turf and then on the hull, let each of them tack up and then put it on. You shouldn't have any problem with it skiing around or my staying in place. Do the rails the same way

I am using the contact cement you get at Menards. I have been applying the cement to both surfaces and letting it tack up. Also using a heat gun. Anyone have tips on doing the front bumper? I am uncertain how to cut the turf. With the rounded edge/shape of the bumper there is going to be extra turf when you fold it over to cover the other surface. Any tips or pics? I will post pics of the ski when done.

You dont have to cut in a curved shape if you are using a heat gun.

The ONLY contact cement to use is the DAP Red can. I have heard good results with the DAP gel formula (still in red can).
Usually two coats on the turf (because it soaks it up). LET IT DRY before applying, it does not have to be tacky.

thanks for the tips. I am using the right glue, maybe i just need to let the glue dry a little more before I apply it. Anyone have suggestions on how to cut the front bumper shape out of the mating? the 2 pics above show what I was thinking, not sure which way to go with it.

Figured out that less is more when it comes to the weldwood contact cement, going a lot better now! All I have to do now is the front bumper. Anyone have advice on how to cut the front bumper out. Not sure if I should follow the contour or just cut a straight piece out like this picture in post #4 and mold in around the contour with a heat gun. thanks for the help

I just did mine last night and I just cut a straight piece and kept it real tight and just followed the shape of the nose. It came out real well. As for the part where it dips in around the bow eye I just cut out another small piece and glued it in, by the time you have the bow eye fitting installed its hardly noticable. I didnt use a heat gun btw, and it went pretty easy. And less is definetely better, I learned that the hard way myself a few years back on a old 440, ruined a paint job and a $80 hydroturf kit, lol.
