How to "shrink" my ADA o-ring?

So I'm putting new o-rings on my non-girdled ADA head and the big one seem a bit too big. I ordered these from ADA so I'm assuming it's just stretched a bit. Will putting it in the freezer for a bit bring it back down to size and will it hurt it at all?

Thanks,

J

Put some vaseline on the o-ring.
Then work it into the groove all around.
It'll fit just fine.

I was trying that, I had some grease on it and by the time I got it almost all in there, there was like 1/4" still left.

I put in the freezer for 10min and then it fit perfectly.

Thanks,

J

your stretching it as you put it on. refit it and it will fit correctly. take your time.

yup. sometimes you have to chase it around a few times and find where its stretched to allow it to naturally contract into the groove.

sometimes too much grease is bad because it fills up the groove and doesnt let the o-ring sit all the way in.

Freezing some rubber o-rings brings the polymer below its glass transition temperature, making it extremely brittle. Same thing that happened to the challenger spaceship. Its science, its boring, but its my life.

That's what I thought I was doing, so I made sure I was pressing it down into the groove all the way around instead of "smoothing" it in. It was still a bit long/stretched. The freezer trick worked but I'll be more patient next time. Thanks guys!
