Tried posting in Tech, but access denied.

Couple minutes to burn... thought I'd post something someone might find beneficial.

What is the purpose of this mod? Shave a couple pounds, but in my case with the exhaust that I will be running on this years setup, it is the only thing that will work without spending a ton of cash.

All parts purchased here: http://www.cometkartsales.com/
Fuel Tank: http://www.cometkartsales.com/store/chassis/cpa/fuel.htm
Extras: http://www.cometkartsales.com/store/chassis/cpa/fuelfitting.htm

The tank itself is about 2.5 gallons. I am hoping for about 30 minutes of riding before refill. Luckily I live on the water and the main ride area is right out front. I still have to come up with something to get me by for Lake St. Clair riding though (party/show off zones)... modding my stock SJ tank perhaps with some heat...? More on that later. The tank is listed: Righetti Plastic 9 Liter Quick Release Fuel Tank, No Hardware $38.95

The picture and description on the site is kind of vague/conflicting... No Hardware? Picture #1 of this post shows how it comes stock. On the right is the fuel pickup, and left is the return (vent is built into the cap). Picture #2 shows the components pulled out.

Picture #3 shows the Replacement Euro Fuel Tank Pickup Tube $13.95 that must be purchased to turn this into a dual pickup system. This includes the barb fitting, tube and clunk. I was bummed though to find the picture on Comet's site did not match what they sent (there picture shows brass hardware, the one I received uses what looks like plastic and some other kind of metal).

Picture #4 shows the Return Line Fitting for Fuel Tanks $8.50. Might as well say mini bulk-head fitting. Drilled a tiny hole next to the filler cap, pushed it through, then carefully get the nut on the fitting using two fingers through the gas fill hole. Another bummer here though... different then the brass fitting shown on the site.

Picture #5 shows the end result.

I will be running dual 49MM's... dual pickups is the only way to go in this case.

After looking through a couple misc. threads, it wasn't quite clear what comes and what is needed. Hopefully this solves the mystery for some. All in all, pretty cheap. Some people are trying to get multiple hundreds for this setup... crazy.

Regards,
Andrew

I just realized I should probably post a picture of it installed in a Superjet. It does utilize the stock straps and does not require any fancy mounting hardware.

Note: this is not my 'ski.

Looks like a good write up to me, got a link of where to get the parts, pic of the parts before installation, and after its very clear as well.
Good work, I like reading ones like this cuz after I feel like I can explain it to others no problem...

Do it twice?That's DooDoo
I have that tank and it lasts me about 30 minutes -->the way I ride on a new 701 with all the mods except for porting. I ran out of gas once and learned my lesson... I love the tank, but it is important to get to learn quickly how long you have between fillups... I usually take a break about that time anyways.... I take the hood off, check temps, do a visual inspection on stuff, fill up the tank, get a drink of water, and off I go again... and my old gas cap makes a nice storage compartment lid. :)

i alos been running this setup since last season. about 30min ride time for me. This mod alone has made a difference in the handling, high nose and i love it, and makes monkey jumps and ball busters easer.

also not sure if it was mentioned , but teh cap acts as a one way pressure valve, and works great IMA.

Roo-u goin with the new EME exhaust system???

Roo, Luke and i have had no luck with stock strap locations and that tank. When accidently doing 3/4 rolls and upside down landings it alway twists and ends up sideways. Every backflip we ever tried, we'd have to go back to the shore and adjust the tank. I finally modded my pipe to fit around the oem tank because of that and the 15 min run times. Luke is going to try to run that tank again with a new mounting system in his envy, check his thread. You might consider something like that. Thanks for posting the links for the tank though, its a better price than i've seen lately. Also we had to use alumium fittings like the xft's because the plastic ones snap easily. Tom

Tom, thanks for the advice. IF the new setup ever shows up, that is pretty much all I HOPE to be doing :dunno:

Perhaps I will be posting a follow-up to this thread then.

Do you have any pictures you care to share of your modified pipe that fits around the OEM tank? Did you notice any effect on performance?

Andrew

Yes, I realize this is an old thread, someone else bumped it.

You can't run a tank to empty. Anything below half and you are going to start pulling air and lean/deto. It's more like 1-1.5ga then refill. I have a stock SJ tank, 5ga. I refill at 1/2 tank if freeride or racing.

Unless of course, you run tank foam. Then you can run on fumes.
