how much do footholds get in the way when riding?

I am about to embark on a defoam - refoam and returf job on my superjet. I am likely going to install wamilton rickter footholds seeing as I have to cut holes to get the waterlogged foam out anyway.
My question is: do any of you guys find they get in the way when you're riding flatwater or generally riding around without actually using the footholds. I've never ridden with footholds before so I'm interested to know if you trip on them when walking around in the tray area and are they only really good for people who want to do backflips and barrel rolls everytime they ride.
I use my ski at a lake where I go camping and also like to ride in the ocean but don't want to make my ski a one trick wonder?
thanks for any advice

I was a little worried about that at first, but with traditional holds you've got nothing to worry about. If you're riding surf stance and your holds are far enough back, you can stick one foot in the hold too.
They help with much more than rolls and flips! IMO it's gotta be my favorite mod. It's helped advance my riding at a much faster pace. Go for it, you won't regret it.

You can always step out of them when you are cruising fast. Dont install them unless you are going to try stabs and rolls.

My belief is that traditonal footholds get in way, check out the footholds I installed in my superjet. There are a few guys that I ride with that have done the same thing and nobody has any problem do rolls, stabs and backflips. My favorite part about them is that they are great for flat water, you can walk all over the tray and nothing is digging into your ankles.

I ride my Rickter mostly in the surf but in the summer when it's normally flat i just go for a coastal ride and never seem to have any problems. Remember the Rickter holds can be removed in a matter of minutes by unbolting them.
