How many screens on stock filter

One screen is all you want! Take 2 out!

Curious - was I dreaming or crazy when I thought my 90 SJ ran a bit different (as in slightly out of tune) when I took all but one of the screens out of my single carb unit this past summer? I noticed it enough to put them back in...

Look at my sig and av - I have one of both - gotta start somewhere and when you get the 90 for $350 in immaculate untouched condition you just can't pass up the deal :Banane01:

Anyway, back to the question - which is - does removing some of the screens affect the mixture enough to require a richening???

Not sure on a bone stocker? Why bother if its bone stock? Are you racing in the stock class of some sort? I do this when I rejet carbs and the install pipe, dual cooling, ignition upgrades or when adding other mods...

Totally agree - wasn't trying to go out and race or anything, I had just taken them out thinking it would give the SJ a little more kick out of the water, a cheap trick to get a little more power. When I tried it though, it seemed to stumble a little bit (just slightly), so I put them back in and it reverted back to normal.

Sorry to ask such a 'stupid question'. No big deal.

Btw, there are folks around here that swear by a single carb setup for their purposes.

I would love to get all the goodies on my machine (esp since just got the RN), but have to wait for more funds and its good just having the machines to ride on even if stock.:smile:

I have noticed when I use 3 screens I have to suck way harder, and it kinda hurts my lungs!:439: :439: :smokin: :smokin: Wouldn't this be the same for a motor?

Just blow thru them, you will see the diffence as how much air comes out the other side.

I had 2 stock F/A apart yesterday, the screens line up so close I don't see how it would reduce airflow to remove 2? So I left 3 in one boat and 1 in the other. I guess I should do a plug check?

Wouldn't reduce airflow, it would increase airflow if you remove them. Like I was told though, on a stock machine it's not the big of a difference.
