hey krazyrider...there is huge racing population over at pwctoday....but you will occasionally trip over some racers over here also...many people are still riding the SXR still, although the Sj is also very popular now since the hull design change, and then there is hydrospace if you can afford 13k for a ski...octanes are crazy fast just dont have the superior handle like the sxr and sj...i race an old school superjet in the vintage class on our tour(region 6). promoters have recently started adding this class for the younger crowd that does not have the money to race sxrs, octanes, hydros, and the newer style ski's..its super competetive, lots of fun, and actually one of the most watched races of the weekend with consistant full lines...have any questions or considering racing feel free to pm me buddy

I race vintage over in the Greatlakes Watercross series, in Wisconsin. We are the ones that pretty much started the Vintage Class. The Greatlakes Watercross series is a pretty laid back race environment so I couldn't tell what it would be like in your region but our class is pretty much anything older than 2002 can race. It is an open class so open class rules apply as far as mods and the cc limit is set at 750, but like I said it is a laid back environment and we let pretty much let any old ski race regardless of the mods. We also just started a 650 vintage class and X2 vintage to make the Vintage Class a little more fair to those that aren't running moded 750's and 701's. Anyways if you post over in the Racing Section at PWCtoday you will get more information than what you need as far as your region and the rules.

Good luck and it is addicting.

is there a website for Greatlakes Watercross series, in Wisconsin? I live in chicagoland, but WI is not far away. A race with my older superjet would be a blast in the vintage class.

something silly like 1996 and older. Its redic. If you ask me the only thing that should be allowed to be vintage is 550 and x2.... maaaybe a 650sx. But certainly no 750s or square noses.

Edit.

Oh, or an fx1

The 08/09 SJs are far superior to the older hull design for racing. They handle very good. The SXR's still are a better overal race ski because of the size and weight. The extra size and weight makes the SXR stick to the water where the SJs light weight will sometimes hop around. There is a reason the SJ is given more mods in the spec classes to help it stay competitive with the Kawis. The Hydros are in a league of there own. Not only do they handle better than both (on the track) but with minimal mods, they are fast as crap. But, you pay for that premium.

You can weight the SJ to make it better, but if you are serious about racing, the SXR is better. Dont get me wrong, there are plenty of guys that can race the SJ 2008+ and win. It just has to be ridden very aggressiively. That can be very tiring. Thing is, most can go faster around the bouys on an SXR using the same energy. It takes more effort on the SJ's which can wear you out faster.
