How many hand holds ?

I am about to cut up a hood for my SN so I went over all the threads regarding hood mods both here and on PWCToday, I have made some templates and am playing around with the layout.
It seams that I have a grasp of what is involved but the number of hand holds has me puzzled.

I have never ridden a ski with hand holds so I was wondering how many is enough ?
I have seen hoods with 8, 6, 4 and 2 holds so it seams that it's up to the individual but like I said earlier, I have no experience.
So what's a good number ?

Once you cut the holds out do you guys add material to the inside edge to make a thicker grip or is the thickness of the hood OK to grip and hold as long as you are wearing gloves ?

If I cut out more than one hold per side (let's say 3) should each one have it's own separate bucket behind it or one long one ?
Should I add a drain if it is one long bucket per side ??

Sorry for all the questions but I only have one hood and want to make it right the first time.

i'd do individual buckets, on how ever many handholds you want.

definately thicken the area around the holes with some glass and epoxy resin. the amount of holds is up to you but i think any more than 2 is overkill.

id also go with individual handcups under each hold. before you glass in the handcups, turf the inside around the hole. youll be glad you did.

As for the location, 2 right up front is all I would ever need or want?


I only have 2 hands but my jeans have 4 pockets, go figure.

I think the picture of the hood with 3 holds per side looks cool but I'm still a nood so how can I know what's cool.

i like the look of the 3 handholds on my hood, but the only ones I have ever used are the middle ones. But that is just to remove and install the hood.

My first hood had 1 set way up to the front and i didnt like that.

As many as possible...the more hand holds the more you can rip it up freestyle....you want them on the nose, hood, tray, near the pump, on the sides of the hull, pole...etc

I have 2 holds in the middle of my hood which is good for most things, but I certainly wish I had a couple more up front sometimes when I'm trying to pull myself back on from a fountain or whatever.

Today, after everyone left the beach (I don't like witnesses) I tried to spin myself around on the hood to get a nice fountain going. With no holds anywhere I kept sliding off making an a$$ of my self.

Time to cut a perfectly good hood and make it better.:Banane01:

i have 2 towards the front and i can get on frntwards backwards easy for many other tricks, i like the look of more tho too.

I have two handholds and still dont use them to spin on the hood. I still use the bondline.

You dont need hand holds....grab the side rail with your left hand. Done it for the longest:arms: Infact still do for a few rare things
