How long before gas goes bad?

Last weekend I drastically overestimated how much gas I would need for a full day of riding. I guess I'm still not used to how much longer gas last with my squarenose compared to my 550.

Anyhow, between 2 full gas containers and my ski being full I have about 15 gallons of pre-mixed gas in my garage. not sure if i will be able to get back out in the next couple of weeks.

How long can i expect the gas/oil to remain good?

thanks!

I usually get rid of it after a month of sitting. I'm sure you'll get a lot of different opinions on this.

gas sits for months in the tanks at your gas stations. it lasts for years but the octane changes a little, sun is bad for it. i have had cars run on ten twenty year old gas. the gas in my car right now has got to be six plus years old and car runs great. 71 super beetle filled it so long ago i cant even remember drive it about hundred miles a year

ethanol blends will separate if sitting too long (big problem in the boat industry) ... that said, I have had some sit for 6-8 weeks and ran it.

does that change since I've mixed 16oz of oil to each of the 5 gallon containers?

I'd say if it's going to sit any longer than 3 mos. than add some stabilizer to it. And shake it up when you go to use it because after awhile of sitting the gas and oil will begin to seperate.

I've run 2-3 month old gas in my skis without problems. The gas was even sitting outside the whole time in (sealed) red gas jugs.

Mixing oil with the gas causes it to loose it's octane rating sooner. That's the real problem if you use an old mixture in an engine that requires a high octane rating. 2-3 weeks if kept cool should not be an issue.

Our pontoon gas wasnt winterized and it sat in the rank outdoors for all winter including a few hot days. It ran fine both times weve rode it since taking it back to the lake. a tiny bit of sputtering, but we had some previous problems that caused terrrible sputtering that are now fixed (bad one way gas valve, now a two way valve thanks to a drill)
