so there is the HOW . . . .
how about the WHY?
now every drop you spill ends up INSIDE the ski
I do not see the advantage :dunno: :smashfreakB:

Here's how I closed my old filler neck. Slick as :):):):). Check your local truck parts store for one of these bad boys.

Oooh, nice. I hadn't thought of one of those. I'll have to take a look tomorrow.

Here's my "why": I have a SN and a very re-worked front nose. It was much easier for me to move the filler inside then it was to make a place for it outside. I do plan on making a "spill bib" that goes around the filler while refueling out of those oil absorbent pads. Also, if you do spill, it does go in the hull, where it is contained and you can actually clean it up. If you spill when it's outside, it goes right into the water. At our lake property, my nieces, nephews, and my dogs are in the water where I refuel. That's the last thing I want them swimming in.

This one was $15 so it'll probably be $10 in the US.

They come in different sizes of course - if they have to order one in, get the one that is 1 3/4 inches before tightening.

I don't care about how it looks or if I spill gas. My tank comes out a lot while I'm tuning and tightening.

Maybe its because of my large, rugged, manly hands but it used to take me forever to get the filler hose connected when putting the tank back in. Not now!

You can top off the tank, filling it to it's maximum capacity, whereas with the stock filler you leave three inches or so empty.

...And it looks cool

if you pull the check valve off the tank while fueling you can fill that sucker right to the top. plus another 1/8 gallon up the filler neck hose in the stock form.

the only way i see internal fill being cool is on a square if you round out the nose. it is much easier to pull the tank for wrenching. you can leave it full. it seems everytime i have to pull the tank on my RN its 3/4 full and a mess to pull it out unless i siphon it.

I dont pull my tank much
I fuel up at the gas station on the way to the ramp
so spillage is not in the water- or my bilge!
I occasionally top off in the water on then ramp
with friends holding the skis
wouldnt want to do that with the hood off!
just dont see any value in this mod, if you do, enjoy!

So you don't premix?
Also, if I don't have the hood off when filling, I get surprised every time and make a mess. So the hood is off anyway.

I think this is a great thread on how to do this properly. Nice write up.

Not a fan of cutting the tank up.
The plastic filler neck fits right into the stock opening with just a tiny bit of grinding and the original hose clamp does a great job at holding it all together.

Why do the internal fill ?
Much easier to remove the tank weather full or empty.
You can get more fuel in there which is important to some.
Forces you to take off the hood when fueling which not only prevents build up of gasses but gives you an opportunity to give everything a once over.
Allows me to rest the fuel jug on the flame arrestors and just hold it in place with one hand. Much easier especially after a long ride than having to hold it up in the air while the fuel takes it's sweet time to come out of the shaity ventless, echo friendly jugs. Less chance of spilling fuel if a sudden wake hits as the jug will sway together with the ski.

What's the big deal about spilling a bit of fuel in the hull ?
That's what scuppers are for.:jester:

Or you could look at it as "why NOT do an internal fuel fill"

If you are going to be painting the ski already anyway I don't see any reason not to fill the stock area and do an internal. I probably wouldn't have done it unless I was painting though. Reasons I did it was because I pull my tank alot, less chance of water getting in the tank when re-fueling, and more than anything, if you have a decent ride out to the surf it's nice to be able to squeeze as much gas in the tank as possible.

I can fit more gas in my tank with the filler neck still there.:stups: You have to fill the tank with the return line or check valve removed until the gas burps out of one of those two nipples then its full.

But i agree it is much easier to use internal fill if you end up pulling the tank a lot.
