On a SJ? If so, remove the pump cone, support the pump, then press it out the back. Or, like I just did last month, beat it out with a hammer and a piece of wood to prevent damage.

I have removed mine by driving it out from the rear underneath the tail cone like SuperJett said. It is preferable to use a press to prevent possible damage from beating it out. You should be able to find someone with a small hydraulic press at most any welding or machine shop. Go ahead and get new bearings and just have someone remove and reinstall everything at the same time.

the drive shaft comes out through the end that the cone bolts to. they come out fairly easy. heat up the bearing housing and it will come out even easier than it already does

I held the pump in my hands and hit the end of the shaft on the ground (spline side). If it's bad, don't worry about messing it up...

thanks, sounds easy enough. what about putting it back on? do you need a press to put it back in? any do it yourself tips for re-installing it? should i replace the bearings? if so where can i buy them? do fx-1's and superjets have the same bearing?

I tapped mine in w/ a rubber mallet and a piece of wood, if I remember correctly..
