How do you de/re-foam an X2????

So, got this 95 X2 from CL for $400, not bad, but has some issues. Most of which, this thing, because of the foot wells being broken, really sits low, and mostly to the right. If it's in the water, it will lean so bad, the hood seal is under water and it takes on even more.

So, how does one go about removing and installing new foam? Where do you make the cuts?

I'll probably do the pink foam thing to prevent this from happening again along with a couple drains in the back.

Well, you are probably right. Oh well, what's done is done.....

Will be more expensive in the long run, but I'll really get to know this thing inside and out....literally.

Well cut that one up and find out all about it. Then throw it out. It will be cheaper to get another hull. The materials to fix that one would be a lot more then finding a good hull.

I figure any ski that is over 10 year old needs to be re-foamed. I don't care if it's a mint 86, or a trashed 95, those hulls don't stay water tight forever (and likely left the factory with leaks). Once mine is done, I"ll weight it for comparison.

I figured that I would make cuts similar to the ones you did there Rags. Though, I was hopping to cut the wells out and up the inside a bit in one piece and not cut out the center. I doubt the foam under the seat is that wet, unless those compartment drains leaked.

Oh, and I have all the materials from my SJ build. I have tons of glass and over half gallon of epoxy resin. Around here hulls are not available. Even a broken, non running ski brings in $400 and a good running one is usually $1000. I'm jealous of you guys that can buy good running skis for $300.

Thats a project and a 1/2, but if you do it the what rags showed it will work. Be really careful around the intake grate repair. Thats the one the worries me the most. Defoaming X2's SUCKS big time.

depending on how extent you wanna take it you could go the route that vamud went on his, splitting it in half and usen a pressure washer to blast it all out

Hmmm, never really thought of that. That might be an option since I've already fixed the footwells and turfed them. That would save my new turf job.

How would one go about doing such a job? Heat and a pry bar, or...??????

I don't know how hard that would be. Is the Kawi glue as good as the green Yamaha glue? The green stuff sucks.

My engine is already out and that sure would make fixing/reinforcing much easier. Now you got me thinking.
