thats the sharp tip, pivit tip thing that I said you might have to remove so it doesnt press against the flywheel...

I think what he's saying is, with the sharp tip on the autozone harmonic balancer puller, it will wedge against the flywheel and not against the crankshaft stub and yeah, will not pull the flywheel off. You need to get a puller with a removeable tip. Also, you don't want to screw it down to the end of the crankshaft because it will ruin your threads--been there, done that.

I screw the original bolt back into the crankshaft hole until its a couple milimeters away from the flywheel. Then, adjust your harmonic pulley puller so that you are pressing against the head of the bolt and not against the crankshaft. I, too, use an impact wrench set to around 100 ft lbs to tighten it all down and then whack it with a sledge hammer. It will pop right off after a bit. Then, unscrew the flywheel bolt and the assembly will come off. Be sure to grab the key as well.

Who gives a ******** how much it costs. Wimpy or not, it does the job and works well. :woot:

Not trying to put to rub it in at all ,when you pull off several of these a week ,some of which are big time stuck, you buy a puller that will do the job without question everytime.:banghead:

Gee whiz we're all in awe now :bow28:

Just help the fellow out, Wedo, and dont get into a pissing match about how many things you've "pulled off" (whatever they may be) per week. All he needs to know is to watch that the center bolt (no matter how fckin cheap it is), needs to not touch the flywheel so it can pop off cleanly. Done. My .02.

If it came across that way I am sorry, the written word leaves much to the imagination I guess.

Im gonna try to post pics. tonight or tomorrow of this motor that this guy sent me. It is the most GHETTO rigged thing ever. First ill try to describe how bad it is: to start the box it came in was a cut up cardboard box cut so that it could fit the other cardboard box inside where the motor actually was. On the bottom of the second box there was a cupboard door on the bottom and metal straps anchored to it. When i opened it up the cupboard door piece broke and there was wood pieces everywhere and the guy didnt bother to put tape or anything over the holes in the engine so now i have wood pieces all in my intake, crank, everywhere. He said that there was a new bendix, stator, flywheel and pistons. I took the head off and there was a piece missing off the rear piston. I took the flywheel cover off it was just all rust with a ton of gunk on the bottom of the case. On top of this I looked at the box where the shipping cost was and it was like 37.00 he made me pay 100 for shipping and was dumb enough not to cover that up...Needless to say i reported him. but just thought i would let you guys know...dont buy from ebay try to buy from here.

Tomorrow im gonna post pics. of the enigne i recieved and post the ad on ebay to make sure i have a adequate claim to file and let you guys (the experts of this stuff) help me out and let me know i got screwed!

The only problem I seem to have with my puller is the quality of the bolts. Grade 8 bolts eventually snap the heads off and grade 5 bolts get the hell bent out of them.

What do you use for puller bolts? I have 4 different sizes and am constantly having to run to ACE hardware to pick up new bolts since the old ones bend or snap off.

And yes, I'm tightening it down equally by hand until I get pressure and then use the impact wrench. The puller is not off center or angled.

I usually use Seadoo head bolts, after a couple of uses they are usually bent and I have to find a new set,I guess its part of the process.:banghead:
