SXR How did this happen?!

Spent two days trying to remove the stock impeller off my SXR. Finally got the pump in a decent vice and got a 4' breaker bar. After 30 minutes of inching off the impeller using every ounce of strength I had I found this.

The impeller had somehow welded itself to the shaft. Threads on both the impeller and pump are shot. The shaft no longer spins very well either, I think I tweaked a bearing or something. It all worked fine before too lol. How the heck did this happen.

What's my best option for fixing this mess? Is it worth trying to fix this pump or is it shot?

I'm open to the idea of a mag pump. Not the $1500 or whatever skat but the cheaper Solas I keep reading about. Do those run on kawis?

the same thing happen to 2 of my 09 sxrs it sucks, that god my bro had an extra one for me this past week only swapped about 3 sxr pumps in the last 2 weeks bc of this...... it sucks, i used a 750 pump and have a new prop in it, awesome now....

Stainless to stainless can cause galling like this (impeller to shaft). Some anti seize compound and proper torquing will eliminate it for the next removal.

eh?

Are you sure you didn't apply a couple hundred foot pounds in the wrong direction?

I just pulled apart my SXi pump that is 16 years old (with salt water use) and had no issues. It was almost like new.

I've heard from my local shop that antiseize can to that... similiar metals joined by a disimiliar metal (antiseize) causing welding. Don't know if it's true but never chanced it to find out... strictly teflon thread sealant for me.
