Hooking up a tachometer with white/red wire

Has anyone hooked up a tachometer onto their 701 by connecting it to the white/red wire (I believe the 61X and 62T have same wire coming from the stator).

I have mine hooked up to the ignition box (even though the instructions say don't) so I'm thinking about disconnecting and using it for the tach.

is it working, I always used the wrap around the plug wires.

I would do that, but it looks too cluttered in the engine compartment that way.

Okay, so the service manual says the White/Red is from the Pulser coil. I suppose that means it can't be disconnected (per MSD instructions).

Would it be a bad thing to splice into this so that the pulser feeds the CDI and the tach?

p.s. The brown/white wire is from the Charging coil and the green wires are from the Lighting coil. WTF is the difference, IDK.
