Super Jet Hooker impeller lag

I have a Hooker 9/15 on my some what modded s/n superjet. There seems to be lag right off the bottom end as soon as you open the throttle. Is that common with these? But right after the lag it starts to pull, but not how I think it should. A friend of mine who has just about the same setup but on a RN has a solas 13/15 concord, and it its really hard right away and pulls hard. The motor just seems like it doesn't rev up as quick, like the prop is trying to grab to much. So I was wondering would the solas be a better impeller for flat water?
Here is my set up-
62t case ported
61x cylinder bored to 82mm and ported
ADA head (185 psi)
B pipe with TDR waterbox
dual 44 Blackjacks (just had Art set them up) on an R&D intake
Vforce3 reeds
EPIC ignition
Stock pump cone with a bored protec reduction nozzle

I never noticed it with mine, but Art said the hooker is set back a little too far which causes the lag. He said adding a spacer should fix the problem, I would give Art a call and see if he can get you a spacer

Im running a total of 5mm spacer on my hooker 10-16 per Arts recommendation and reduction nozzle currently bored to 84mm. Happy with it so far.

In my opinion, something else is wrong. It's always been mine as well as many others experience that the hooker has zero lag and the concorde props have a slight hesitation off the bottom. Based on the setup that you have, you wouldn't be spinning the prop so my guess is that your carbs or your ignition needs to be dialed in just a little better. Might be as easy as giving the low speed adjuster a slight bump in one direction or reprogramming the ignition.

I found the problem. My impeller has a couple bent blades, one of them has a decent bend. I guess that would explain all the vibration that I was getting at idle. I thought that I may have a bad motor mount, but nope just the impeller. I guess I will be sending it off to Impros, plus I just ordered a concord 13/17 just to use until I get my hooker back.

well removed pump to remove impeller and put in a spacer.
it wasnt me who installed the impeller. and i noticed that there was already an spacer there. a whopping 10mm spacer. so my impeller wasnt setback 7mm but setfront 3mm.
i did also find that i have a hole in my statorhousing. plugged the hole and installed the impeller as intended. gonna ride saturday hope it runs great :d

i have the hooker 10/16 on my 03 rn set up for fw freestyle/freeride and mine hooks up instantly.....no lag at all..pipe, milled head, porting and LOTS OF FINE TUNNING....i do not rember putting in any spacer behind impeller, i did bore my stock nozzle to 85mm and my pump has been completely cleaned up and polished (removed casting marks and sharpened the blades) aka semi-blue-printed.

Dave at Impros says it does not need a spacer. They are designed to work on the stock 144 pump and drive shaft. He said if there is a lag, then there is a problem. Either with a misaligned blades on the impeller or a engine tuning issue. I had my ski out yesterday with a skat 15-19 and it ran great. I even had pretty good hook up with that old skat prop. I received my Solas Concord 13/17 today and got it installed and will probably head out tomorrow and see how it handles. Hopefully it will work out until I I get my Hooker back from Impros. I guess then I can compare the Hooker with the Solas.

Interested in that comparison I run 13/17 in two ski's. PM me after you compare if you would.

The Solas props always seem to be doggie off the bottom... Lucas just got a 12/18 Big hub Solas in his surf ski & it rips..

Washers are good to fine tune a pump, no washer loads the pump more... Install a Washer unloads the pump... Props gotta be close to the right pitch to make the washer tune work...

What curve are you running in the Epic?

On my epic, I am running the MSD curve and one that is a little more aggressive that I made. I'm running those for now since I'm still breaking in my motor that I just built. But soon I will have a curve set up by Art at BlackJack and the epic curve.
