SXR Hood weight reduction question.

I have removed most of the interliner from my 06 SXR. Lost more weight than I thought I would. I have left uncut the back of the hood where the rear air supply hose is attached. The job was not bad at all but before I go and add another air supply hose I questioned if it is even needed?

I am doing the same. Pretty sure it is there for good reason. I'm going to add another to the back section.

Mine's been cut for over a year with just the rear one, and for many years with the Blowion front block off. I noticed no difference in running from before to after on my ski with Blackjacked carbs, wet pipe, head and ignition.

The air necessary for your engine is related to engine size, RPM, and volumetric efficiency. If you are running a larger engine, dry pipe and some big carbs at a high RPM (racing), you might need that extra hose, but for me, cruising and playing around, I didn't.

Is there a good place to see pics of this? I would like to lighten my hood too but I dont know where to start. I bought the blowsion front block off and it was supposed to come with directions for making a rear air intake hole but it didnt. Anyone that can help would be appreciated!!

When you flip your hood over, you will see one side is open for an air intake, you can cut the other side open as well so it can get air from either side.

I don't recall what I cut out of it. Seems like I had it down to like 16#. I'm in the middle of some mods for my build, so it's not accurate as it sits.

I also removed ALL brackets off of it. No front stainless thing, no fire extinguisher and bracket, no hood pad (hydroturf pad on my pole), and no hood latch (ratchet strap only here).

I am sick of breaking my front brackets...any pics of your hood with the strap setup??? Mine slides around too much to use no brackets. (unless you have a better way!)

Took ski for a ride Friday with just 1 black air inlet. Could tell no difference. Did a plug check and things look normal. I won't be going to the effort of adding another black air inlet unless things change.

Oops, I guess I do have some brackets, the hood hooks is it, however I've now trimmed the hood so the hooks and brackets don't work. I'm currently investigating hood retaining methods. I'm going to give WDK a call and ask about his front latch from the Envy (ROK as well?).

I also checked out the QSM Vengeance Hull, he added a lip inside the hood that sticks down next to the hood lip into the hull that locates the hood and uses a strap to hold it on.

I will let ya know of what I come up with.
