Surfriding Hood repair/reenforcement

So my hood is really showing all my failed attempts to roll... It's a carbon Octane hood, and was meant for racing, not surf riding, so it's cracking all over. I want to take the liner out and reenforce, but I want to know what the expert opinion is on where to cut the liner. Do I cut right down the bond between the shell and liner on either side, or inside on the liner? Pictures below so you can see how it's set up...
Thanks,
Alex

it looks like you wont be able to get the liner out without destroying both parts any further. can you get a new liner or make your own? cut the liner out as carfully as possible and reinforce or...get a ski more suited for freestyle

I would try something like the Rockwell Sonicrafter or Dremel Might-Max. Use a heat gun to relax the glue a little and the scraper blade - you should be able to slip that blade along the joint to separate them. that blade, with enough force and at the right angle will drive through pretty thick fiberglass, so you need to be careful, but on that hood where you have easy access to everything you should be pretty simple.

(the Dremel is crap, I bought one that worked well for a while, then just died. picked up the Rockwell and its been a champ.)

I used a 2" thin metal putty knife and tapped that with a rubber mallet between the hood and liner. It cut like butter. The only hang up was the glue underneat in the center of the hood.

Alex, When i had to repair my liner when the green glue failed..I used my air saw and slowly went down the bonded line . i wedged a flat scew driver about an inch behind the saw and worked both the tool and the saw. so the tension would spread the joints apart. then epoxy resin mixed wiht micofibers (peanut butter Thick) backtogether with clamps

I'd cut about 1/4 or 1/2" below the curved channel where it dips down. retaining the design and shape and leaving the channel intact. then after reinforcing, graft it back together with some strips of mat extended over the cut lines. in the front where the hood hooks are you may have to cut higher in the shell/liner where it does not meet the outer shell . since it appears to be pretty much one uniform peice. that way if doesnt effect the hood seal areas. just my .02

Could you find a piece of pvc pipe that fits in that gap between the hood and the liner, heat it, bend it if needed to fit in that channel, then use it as a mold to make a new bridge / span section to reconnect the hood and the liner ??

FYI my dremel took a crap too and it was only like 2 weeks old with maybe 15mins of run time. It turned out to be the switch if you pull it apart you can see where it fails its a easy fix

Hopefully you leave the channel attached to the outer shell, and remove the liner, makes life a lot easier to repair and no glass on the outside..I have total faith ! Hmmm
