Super Jet Hood ratchet

Is replacing the stock latch with a ratchet strap style really necessarily I just got a SJ and see it a lot so i guess it must be but as much as I have put my Blaster through it seems crazy that those latches fail. I am going to order a limiting rope just to be safe even though I am not to hot on the ski yet. Just wondering if I should do that also.

If you dont ride hard you are fine without. The first time your hood comes off you will wish you had one. Fast Elements has a nice stainless kit

You keep the stock latch and put a strap ratchet under it as the best solution against destructive riding. I was running on ratchet only for some time and I never lost the hood, but still moved sideways which in some cases is critical. once the hood is not right on the seal it will leak water and it will overcome the bilges if you are in a rough water (I sunk my ski once because of that). The stock latch basically keeps the hood in place sideways, the ratchet prevents the hood to come completely off. Another thing to consider is, if your stock hood which is made of really :):):):)ty material starts moving a bit every now and then from side impacts it will get destroyed on the lip.
In addition, putting the ratchet strap over the stock latch prevents it from unlocking itself which usually is the main problem with the stock latches.
