home made waterbox

i'm going to be making a waterbox this coming friday and was looking for some input. i ride an octane with an octane pipe, vforce 3's, higher comp, and a few other odds and ends. my factory box took a crap and i switched to a chambered tdr. worked great. switched to a stock rn and the ski felt like my stock blaster. the stock rn box completely kills a dry pipe. anyways...

my idea is for a basic three chamber setup. instead of doing small holes or a bunch of holes in general i was thinking of using some flat stock welded at a downwards angle for the first chamber. leaving about an inch between the flat stock and bottom of the waterbox. then hoping i can find the right combination of water to keep about a 1" of water in the bottom of the box. then i'll angle a piece of flat stock up with an inch gap at the top. this way it will create a small pocket of water in the base of the box for additional sound dampening and not to much back pressure. on the outlet side i'll also be using a nozzle to mist additional water in the exhaust.

i'm hoping about 2/3's th total volume of a stock rn box. my experience seems to point to dry pipe's not liking huge amounts of back pressure. i'm sure there is a fine line of chamber volume, backpressure and water for best performance. anyways, whatcha think? any ideas? it will be made out of aluminum.

thanks.

You may run out of room for a good three chamber box. A good two chamber can be almost as quiet as a three. One of the best examples is the old 580-720 Seadoo box. It would be better to modify an existing tubular box than making one from flat sheets because they will fatigue very quickly unless the material is thick.

Yo Billybo, The three ,3/4 wall type box was loud but didn't have a spray bar in the box., dump high, pick up low like the big boat stuff has worked the best.

The one that had 3/4 wall didn't keep enough water in it to dampen the sound , but was made to run with very little water in it, it was just a bit less loud than a XM box, your center wall sounds like it's the whole taco as far as keeping the water level and sound level where you want with that design. I think it will work. It would be cool if you could open it up and tweek it easily.

interesting idea,At this point id trade a little power for a quieter ski though.loud is ridiculous obnoxious quick. Is it possible to make it as quite and still make more power>

yep, my three chamber box is quieter then a tdr and the power feels slightly better. pretty damn happy. ive been meaning to make a post about dry pipes and waterbox design, but i never have enough time. pm me if you want and i'll send you a pic of how it looks.

Without a tuned pipe, more power with less noise is difficult. With a tuned pipe it is very easy. No piped ski needs to exceed stock noise levels.
