I got my Rickter footholds today and will be starting either today or tomorrow, I will also be reinforcing the tray. I read about 321654068540 threads on how to do it but was just wondering if anyone had any last minute words of wisdom, kind of intimidating. Thanks

Take your time and think before you cut.
It's not hard, you'll get it right.

If you're going to reinforce the tray I'd use some chop mat or biaxle.

Awesome thanks. I just pulled out the old turf and found out there is some damage in the tray that was repaired poorly. It doesn't look like it was terrible damage but I'm guessing my foam is junk. If I have to refoam, do I install the holds first, then cut out the tray, or cut out the tray, new foam, glass the tray back in, then put the holds in?

I didn't know about those templates. I was planning on using the mat, whats better that or biaxle? Not sure what biaxle is...

I'd cut the tray out and remove the old foam before installing the footholds and use the chop mat.

Biaxial fiberglass is e-glass cloth with chop mat sewn together and is more resistant to breaking.

its pretty easy, even on your first time. i didnt have a template on my 1st time so i marked where i thought i should cut and then drew another line about an inch inside the 1st line and cut there. i figured i would rather cut too small of an opening and have to cut more than to cut too much out. make sure the resin is good and dry before pouring foam behind the holds our else it could expand and push them out. also, you might want to glass some foot strap inserts onto/into your tray while doing this. that way if you decide later you want to run footstraps you wont have to re turf.
