Hey 9-15 Hooker crew

I need some feed back on set ups. I’ve read really good reviews on here about the 9-15 Hooker so I bought one as a back up. Well I installed it yesterday and did my first ride this morning and absolutely hated it. It grabs instantly but before I can even reach plane it starts to spin out after that. I had to feather the throttle to get it to bite enough water to get going. My motor is stock except for a B pipe and I’m running a Jet Dynamics intake. I weight about 195lbs. Is this a prop for a lighter rider or is my set up wrong?

I had the same problem with a Westcoast Intake. I switch to a Worx 201 to keep my ski hooked up and have had no problems since.

i have nearly the same exact setup.. 190lbs, ProTec pipe, Jet Dynamics intake. The only other variable is taper bored nozzle.
I love my hooker.

everything go back together good? cavitation is coming from somewhere.

I have the hooker 9-15 and absolutly love it. I've never had the cavatation problem. I have a Wet Wolf stubby cone and a Worx 201 intake great. I would check your pump seal and try another intake grate with more of a scoop on it.

What everyone has said is dead on-the Hooker does a real good job of loading the pump and if u have a slight leak it will cause major cavitation.
I love my Hooker and several people that are in the know are amazed at how well it hooks up!

I may be a little lighter than you but I'm running a 701 with b-pipe, high comp head, porting, total loss, bored nozzle, and wet wolf cone. If I can run all of that with a 9-15 prop, you should be having no trouble at all. My guess is, since you removed the pump to change the prop, you probably pinched the pump seal when you put it back in which is causing some cavitation. Pull the pump again and check to make sure that seal is mated perfectly on the pump before reinstalling again.

I haven't pulled the pump (lazy) ...yet but I did just inspect it throughly through the inlet and the front pump seal looks fine. Also I installed the pump with the engine and mid shaft removed so I don't think a pinched seal is the problem and I'm sure I didn't install the front seal backwards. My Jet Dynamics intake great has a top loader fin, since some of you have swaped out your intakes to fix this kind of problem could it be the top loader fin angle is wrong for this prop causing the cavitation?

I have this exact set up minus the TL. Ive got an MSD enhacer and lightened flywheel. I'm running a Worx 201 grate. The Hooker 9/15 is the best mod I have ever done to my ski. I'm 185 lbs.

How much clearance is there between the pump housing and your impeller ?

Did you leave the spacer between impeller and Pump ?

It sound like you have cavitation i always compare it to a slipping clutch

You have some other issue going on. 760, etc here with a 85mm nozzle and Wet Wolf cone and the 9/15 and no slippage issues at all and I am about that weight also.

I don't want to sound like a prick but if your engine started running like crap after hyrdrolocking it, you wouldn't pull one spark plug and say "the piston looks fine to me, must be something else entirely". :poke:

I don't see how installing the pump with the midshaft and engine removed would have any affect on the pump seal itself. Sometimes it helps to look at the most obvious problem first.
