So, a while back I started working on doing some lookback type rolls. Been working up to pointing to go with it, but haven't convinced my hand to let go yet.

My girlfriend got some vid of one I did at the freestyle surf slam.....unfortunately it's not even a very good one . It's about 2 frames after full extension, so I'm already starting to turn back around. But whatever, I thought I'd share anyway.

It's a blown up grab from a video clip, so the resolution sucks.

Just a dakine strap screwed into the tray. I tried to angle it to toward the side of the tray as much as I possibly could stand. I've decided that there is definitely a difference between as "surf" stance roll and just using a staggered stance. I wanted my hips pointing outward.....not toward the front of the ski.

do you put your back foot in the foothold or do you have another strap in the back?

I've been wanting to try the same thing but the best I can get w/o surf stance is a lookback barrelstab.

How's the leg?

It's pretty much not possible without rolling surf stance. Otherwise the best you can really do is look over your shoulder....you just can't open your body up and look back when your feet are stuck back in the holds.

The leg is doing great. I can't wait for the damn stiches to come out. Right now it just looks like a long cut.....not something that went to the bone. I think I'm going to get out this weekend and shoot some vid from a sit down. Hope to be on the water riding NEXT weekend.

Back foothold. It still gives me a great ability to bail when needed....and adjust my back foot as needed while just riding. I've been working on one footed rolls from the strap. Front foot in the stap, back foot behind me. So far, they just stall out at about 3/4 rotation.

Stainless wood screws or what? I used sluts method before with the acorn nut welded to a fender washer. But of course then I figured out I like the other foot forward :banghead:

Ummm, *shrug* I went to home depot and found some screws that said stainless and looked like they'd work.

They do.

Sorry for all the Q's but Im curious. which foot do you put forward and which way do you roll. it looks like left foot forward and you roll left (I think you said that once)? I'd think that would be harder than rolling right with your feet that way. what do you think?

Nah, I don't mind the questions. I roll left, and I'm goofy footed (right foot forward). I don't even know how to roll right....I break things when I try. I'm sure rolling "backside" would be much more difficult, but I wouldn't know, I kind of suck. I think it would be sick though.

I didn't post the video, because it's sort of an embarassing roll. It's nose high, small, and lands goofy. There isn't good hold time on the look back, it's more like a glance. I know I've done them much much much better. Plus, it's from far away, and sort of hard to see. I just kind of wanted to show the look back.

duh, if i wern't a retard I would have noticed the right foot forward.

So is your back foot in the hold like normal or do you turn your foot sideways (perpendicular to the rail) and just stick the toes in?
