i think i am getting some tonight actually. they don't call me dick-roc for nothing. I have no clue at what hp my current motor makes but i would say it makes more than yours. lol. My antique BB is stronger and has a longer powerband or hit than my 735 did. If stock superjet is claimed 73hp, I would claim 120hp only because I have seen other 700cc sled motor producers claiming this hp in stock format with twin pipes. I know the 2 strokes make peak power in high rpms so its not important for me to know if my motor actually can make 120hp. As long as it works better than a smaller motor I have owned I am happy. I am certain that any 1000+ cc billet motor is better than my current setup.

What's that mean?
It means that the HP numbers you see advertised for any motor are always going to be near the redline of the motor, at high RPM. That's useless for a standup motor.
We use power at the low and mid RPM's, not in the 7000's.
The stock SJ motor might have 73HP at 6000RPM. Who rides there????
At usable RPMs it probably has 20-35HP.

The big & strung up motors? The claimed 101HP motor from the FPP graph in the last thread had about 50HP at 5000 RPM and even less down low.

A motor with a transmission attached to it can operate inside a fairly narrow RPM band to be near peak RPM. Direct drive jetski, not so much. Because of that, our power curves are much wider than they are for other motors. And that also gives up peak HP.

You are thinking of wheeled vehicles. Boats and aircraft operate in a fluid where HP= thrust. Power and load balance, hopefully at the engines maximum HP. You cannot make more thrust with less HP, at least not for a given pump efficiency. There is a much greater variance in pump efficiency in regard to low speed thrust. This should be of more interest since I have measured a 20% increase with an impeller and nozzle change. People should be simply asking "How much thrust from 0-20MPH and how fast does it respond to the throttle"? Instead they get sidetracked with the size of their engine and carbs.

Why do people keep trying to make this analytical? I am fairly certain that was not the point from the get go. lol

Kevbo does make a good point tho-ALL THE HP IN THE WORLD DON'T MEAN ANYTHING IF YOU CAN'T INCREASE THRUST! After all, it is more thrust that we are all chasing.

Now back to the non sense. lol
