Help with starting after stalling problem-02 SJ

I am posting this here because it only happens when I surf ride, in the lake not only does the ski pretty much never shut off unwanted but it will start right back up if it does.

The problem I am having is when the ski stalls out it is usally a pain to get started and I think impossible without the primer. This could happen because I fall off and the tether comes off or I loose it trying a re-entry and the ski gets hit by a wave. If the thing takes on a bunch of water I understand why it would be hard to start/need the primer, but for this problem to happen it does not have to take on water. I was going to try changing the jetting.

It has a Mod B pipe (I know limited would be better for my setup but I could not get my hands on one) and carbon tech reeds.

I am now riding mostly at the ocean in NJ so water temps are prolly in the 60s at this point. Currently it has a 137 main and 72 pilot, 95g pop off spring. The lows are at 2 turns out and the high 2 and 3/4. It is just a little lean like this in the ocean but good in the lake.

Any suggustions on if this sounds like a jetting issue or any other advise? The fact that this never happens at the lake leads me to believe it has something to do with the colder water/ salt water.

Im just tired of getting owned by a wave when if the ski would just start right up it could be avoided.

Thanks guys.

I doubt its your jetting. More than likely your getting a little water ingestion in your carbs. Remember in the surf you're getting bounced around a lot more than on the flat and even a little water seems to find its way into all the wrong places. What flame arrester are you using? Stock is best for surf. Also an aftermarket bilge is your best friend in the surf

I am using the stock air intake, and I have a bilge too. Is it normal to have to prime it everytime it shuts off. I'm just finding every second counts when you have a large wave heading your way... If it would just start up easier it could save me a lot of pain and suffering haha.

Any other thoughts?

Thanks,

You have the right stuff for a surf set up, but from your description I still think your problem is water ingestion. If it were jetting, the ski would react the same at your lake. How often do you ride surf, or What skill level surf rider are you, beginner, intermediate or advanced?

I'm a beginner surf rider, been riding the lakefor awhile but the surf is still somewhat new to me. I'm actually moving to FL so I won't be riding the lake any more.

My reason for thinking it was the jetting was because it def runs leaner in the ocean. I don't think my hood seal is too bad, and I have one hole in the front of the hood plugged.

Altitude differences can cause lean or rich conditions in your carb but there usually has to be several thousand feet of altitude difference before its noticeable. I'm not familair with the geography in your area but I doubt this applies. Since you're a new rider in the surf, and you're getting separated from your ski to the point the engine dies, its still probable that your also getting a little water ingestion making it difficult to start. The only other option I can think of is you may have some shorting out in your elec system which is being magnafied when you ride salt water. Try this test to see if you have an electrical conection problem; Wait until after dark. With a mister bottle, try spraying salt water on your motor while its running. Any arching of the electrical will be redily apparent.

The altitude prolly is not the problem, I was thinking because the lake water is way warmer then the ocean water that it would make it run leaner? I will have to try the salt water test to see if it archs at all. I ordered some new sparkplug boots because I have been told the stock SJ ones are not very good, just waiting for them to come in.

Thanks for all the input!
