So here it goes. Please bare with me, I just want to be descriptive as is necessary.
And I like this new little guy, so lets start with him :barrel: :barrel: :barrel: :barrel:
I purchased a bone stock 93 square with a 650 engine. Before I even put in on the water the only part I changed was the prop. The stock one was tore up so I put in the only other prop I had, which is a Solas J Prop 14.7/18.5, 3 mm cut back.
Took the ski to the lake and it ran bad. Here is the scenario:
You go in a straight line WOT, then let off the gas to make a turn or other maneuver, give it gas again, and it would seem to start lean hesitating on me to the point of dying. Once it hesitates, if you let off the throttle, then return to throttle again, the hesitation goes away and your off starting to build speed again. If you don't let off the gas, or don't do it soon enough, the ski would die. It then would need to be choked to start again.
Brought the ski home, tore out the 650 engine to slap in a 62T/61X stock engine I had lying around. While this 701 engine was out, I had the dual 38's rebuilt to stock specs, which I have not changed since putting the carbs back on this engine. I installed the 701 with the stock exhaust.
Got the engine in, took it out this morning, and the ski is experiencing the same exact problem as with the old engine setup. The following is a list of parts that were on the ski when the 650 engine was installed, and these parts are still on the ski now:
Fuel filler tubs inside gas tank
Fuel Peacock
Waterbox
Prop
Electrical coil
Voltage regulator
Starter Solenoid
All fuel lines have been replaced except for the return line (ran out of fuel hose :frown
. I am now running a pro-tec modded CDI.
Even when the ski got going, it felt under powered compared to how I remember this engine feeling when it was in it's previous ski. I think this can be contributed to the prop, but I am not 100% sure. It is hard to tell, I have been riding my own personal ski for over 6 months that has alot more brap.
I have checked the spark by pulling the plugs and turning over the engine... looks good to me, but I have not tested it with a multi meter or anything.
I have clear fuel line on the ski. When the fuel peacock is on the "on" position, there are absolutely no air bubbles in the line. But if you put the peacock on the "reserve" position, air bubbles develop after the fuel peacock, going into the fuel filter, and then into the first carb.
Please give me your input, things to check. Even random off the wall things; like I was almost thinking, could it be something stupid like the waterbox being clogged, which might also explain the power loss??? :dunno:
