So not sure what happened yesterday but was riding the brothers 96 sj and beefed it after attempting 180 nose stab when the handle pole slide out :-0 looks like the pop rivets fell out and its been glued before but I can fix that no problem. Well it was running just fine but after sitting a while in the water it zero power. The battery was completely dead. Now when I put a battery in it, it just wants to start on its own! Soon as I hook up the cables it turns over without even pushing the start button and the safetly lanyard isn't in it either!

Not sure where to start looking...

The starter is controller by the starter relay. When 12V is applied to the brown wire, the switch is closed, and battery voltage is applied to the starter. I would disconnect the S/S switch all together to eliminate it and go from there. You could disconnect the starter on the ebox side and measure voltages. If you do not have 12V across the brown and black wires and the you have 12V (WRT ground) to the starter the relay is stuck/bad...

So I disconnected the white/black AND the red/brown and it still wants to start on its own. Do you think there is a short somewhere??

^ yeah I'm going to do this tomorrow because I replaced the relay now it won't start unless I jump the two power wires on the relay
