Thank you in advance.
I have to install & seal an intake grate on an XL 700 Yamaha. Yamaha used felt pad chunks to fill the voids between the grate and where it mounts. I don’t know what to use RTV silicone or 4200 fast cure or 5200. The problem is the gap size would require quite a large amount and the 5200 takes 5 days or more to cure . What do you recommend?

I’m thinking to add weather strip type material to cut down on the goop amount ?

use 5200 if you never want to remove it again lol
RTV would be fine
agree 100%. Just grab a tube of silicone and go wild. 5200 gets used in way too many applications where it is complete overkill OR is not even the right thing for the job. Drives me crazy how many times people just blurt out "just throw some 5200 on there". Ugghh. No bueno. It's good at what it is intended to do, but that is not a very long list.

So is RTV going to be able to bond sufficiently under water pressure underway ? Also for filler material. Just a piece of rubber cut down like a rubber tie down strap ? I have foam weather strip but don’t know if it will absorb water - i mean i can just cut a piece off and soak it to see

100% Silicone will be just fine. It fills better than RTV in my opinion.
